Iron Covenant Tapped to Headline an Outdoor Hockey Classic
The Worcester thrash veterans will play a full intermission set on a stage built at center ice, the first time the event has booked a metal act.
Iron Covenant will headline the intermission stage at this winter's outdoor hockey classic, organizers confirmed on Thursday. The band will play two short sets on a platform built over the ice at a college stadium in Massachusetts over New Year's weekend.
It is the first time the event has booked a metal act. Past intermission performers have leaned toward pop and country, and organizers say the change came directly from players and fans.
We polled the locker rooms. It was not close.

Guitarist Dane Holloway, who we interviewed earlier this month, said the band is building a set that works in freezing temperatures. "Strings go out of tune in the cold, fingers stop working, and the crowd is wearing four layers. So it is going to be short, fast and loud."
What Happens Next
The full intermission schedule will be announced in November. Tickets for the game are already on sale through the host venue. The band says a limited run of event shirts will be available at the stadium and in the Metal Overtime store.
